| Dear
Friends of Fulbright India,
As Fulbright alumni charged with a
mission of promoting cross-cultural understanding, you
play a vital role in international exchange. FFI collegial
support can equip a U.S. scholar to better prepare for
research/teaching and experiencing India. Communications
with fellow Fulbrighters help with cultural adjustment
during and after exchange visits. FFI members reciprocate
the hospitality received in India by welcoming Indian
Fulbrighters at home, in community organizations and
for professional interactions at your institutions.
More broadly, FFI can promote the
importance of study of India in the U.S. As you are
aware, India, with its population of one-sixth of the
world, its tremendous diversity in cultures and languages,
its lively democracy and vibrant religious traditions,
and its strategic location, is an important country
for U.S. faculty, teachers and students to know.
The increasing presence of Indian
students and faculty on U.S. university campuses and
in some business communities in the U.S. also make it
incumbent on educational institutions to increase academic
attention to contemporary India.
The U.S. Educational Foundation in
India (USEFI), the Fulbright Commission in India, strives
to be an Indo-American academic gateway. USEFI's work
centers on administration of its fellowship programs,
educational advising for Indians interested in U.S.
higher education and U.S. teachers, students and faculty
interested in studying India, and the staging of seminars
involving Fulbright scholars to promote dialogue. USEFI
works closely with FFI and with the 16 Indian Fulbright
alumni chapters in India to inspire youth to dream of
international exchange and to encourage potential applicants
to understand the Fulbright spirit and competition process.
Please visit USEFI's
website for information on USEFI grants, activities
and links to resources.
USEFI is grateful to FFI for raising
funds to support Fulbright student travel to India and
other activities. FFI complies with Section 501(c)(3)
of the Internal Revenue Code, and donations to it may
be treated as charitable deductions to the extent provided
by U.S. law. Your generous contributions to FFI enable
USEFI's Fulbright funds to reach more scholars.
With thanks and best wishes,
Jane E. Schukoske
